Chief Barber was a barber in Atogbon village.
He was a talkative.
He named himself, "the experienced hand".
People would gathered in his shop to have their heads shaven.
Others came to listen to gossip and latest news.
He did not speak well of anyone, politicians, church goers and elected leaders.
He would speak ill of the dressing of youths that sagged their trousers.
Girls that wore skimpy and body hugging dresses were not spared of his harsh tongue.
Chief Barber was known in the whole of Mbaliam town.
Even children knew him in his kindred of Deliam.
He was loudly greeted as he walked along the road.
King Mela of Mbaliam had grown bushy hair.
His critics often nicknamed him and called him, "the afro of Mbaliam".
Because he was the king, no one dared ask him why he kept bushy hair.
One day, the king called his guards and said, " go and find me a barber."
And so they came to the Chief Barber.
Chief Barber said, "the king is lucky that you came to me. "Barbers of nowadays would carve your head like a cock's mohawk."
He got up and followed them.
They arrived the king's court.
Chief Barber bowed and greeted with courtesy, "long live the king!"
The king said, "I have heard about you in a while, today I will feel your good work."
The king said to him, "I have a horn on my head!"
Chief became startled by this revelation!
He now realised why the king kept a bushy hair.
The king warned him, "If this secret is revealed by anybody, you will pay with your life!"
Chief Barber was so eager to talk about his discovery but feared that he would be killed.
He went and dug a pit, put his mouth inside and began to shout, "the king has a horn on his head! I'm his barber and I know it!
He went home after this.
When the new rains came, a reed with a hollow grew on the pit that chief Barber had dug.
A boy cut the reed and started blowing it as a flute
It was only chief Barber's voice revealing the chief's secret horn on the head that could be heard.
This news surprised the entire village and made them scared as well.
