Long ago, Tilapia, Arowana, and Lungfish were friends.
Lungfish was easygoing, and some thought he was ugly. His friends bullied him, calling him a fool.
Lungfish would not get angry with his friends.
Instead, he would tell them, "Guys, I am not a fool! I am just humble."
One day, the three friends decided to go on an adventure.
They travelled to the far end of their country.
On their journey, they met a fisherman. The fisherman decided to catch them.
Because Arowana was an energetic young fish, he managed to escape.
Lungfish got away because he has a slippery body.
He easily slips from people's hands. He also has a habit of biting his enemies!
However, Tilapia did not survive. The fisherman caught him.
Now, only the two friends, Arowana and Lungfish, remained. They found themselves in a small pond.
When they tried to return to their village, they could not find their way home.
They were stuck in the pond!
In summer, the pond started to dry up.
When the two friends saw this, Arowana asked Lungfish, "What will we do now that the pond is drying up?"
Lungfish replied softly with a smile, "Everyone should follow their father's plan."
Arowana did not know what to do.
Lungfish started to prepare for drought. He began to dig a deep hole. He also started storing food.
The pond became drier.
When the pond dried up, Arowana died.
Meanwhile, Lungfish closed himself inside his hole.
When he had finished all his food, he ate his own tail.
Then it rained again, and the pond filled up.
Lungfish opened the door of his hole and came out.
He found his way back to his village.
Upon arrival, his people were so happy that they received him with a big celebration.
When asked what happened, Lungfish narrated the whole story to the villagers.
He was praised for his wisdom. They called him the wisest fish in the world.
They learnt to never underestimate anybody because of their physical appearance or easygoing nature!
