In Livingstone, not far from the mighty Mosi oa tunya falls, stood an old School beautiful surrounded by tall trees and a beautiful garden.
Inspite of the school beauty, laid a dark secret, it was a spooky story of the legend of a mysterious angry spirit; Mwenda Jangula known to kidnap and maybe kill children.
Legend had it that anyone who encountered Mwenda Jangula would never live to see another day. The chilling tale sent shivers down the spines of the Children.
Despite all the spooky stories about the school, the children loved it, and so did their parents and teachers.
The children had grown to love nature and care for the environment. Despite the spooky stories about Mwenda Jangula, they remained undeterred, Seeing the forest as a place of wonder and beauty.
It was all thanks to their caring teacher, Mrs Muleya, who had taught them to love nature, protect the environment, and look beyond the frightening stories surrounding the forest.
One chilling Monday evening, just as the children were about to go home, something terrible happened. Taonga had vanished. No one knew where she was; only that she was last seen near the forest. The forest was not a place to play.
Whispers spread that Mr. Nyambe, the headteacher, had a secret deal with Mwenda Jangula, and together, they made children disappear. But was it true?
After Taonga disappeared, Mr Mulenga, the Provincial Education Officer, Sealed off the School gardens indefinitely. What dark secret lay hidden behind the garden gates?
Slowly, the School began to lose it's beauty. Flowers wilted, trees withered, and plant in the garden seemed to be dying. What's wrong?
Mate shared the School's spooky story with two of his friends. His uncle, once a pupil, told how a girl vanished in the forbidden forest. Three brave boys rescued her and peace returned. Was Taonga's fate the same? He shivered.
The next day, Mate and two of his classmates Lewis and Kapandula braverly entered the forbidden forest through the mysterious tunnel. Their mission was to find Taonga, but what awaited them on the other side?
On the other side of the tunnel, they found dying trees and thick fog that covered the forest. Everything was silent and gloomy. Where had all the life gone?
Through the fog, they spotted an old building. Inside, they saw Taonga, busy pushing a trolley of chopped forest trees with big men.
The boys gasped! There was Mr. Mulenga, telling Mr. Nyirenda on top of his voice, to sign the School's land over to a rich businessman of Livingstone town: Mr. Daka, to set Taonga free.
Deep in the forest, a factory was already standing. This had been Mr. Mulenga's plan all along; to make money from the forests treasures. But the forest was growing sick and dying slowly.
When the boys realized the truth, Mate quickly called the police. But they had already been spotted, and the men were closing in on them. The boys ran for their lives, desperately searching for a way to escape.
Suddenly, Mwenda Jangula appeared, surrounded by a mysterious glow of power, The spirit paralysed the men, leaving them unable to move as the boys escaped.
Just in time, the police arrived and arrested the bad men. Mate and his friends had stopped a terrible plan to destroy the forest and save Taonga. But would the forest ever come back to life?
Mr. Mulenga was arrested too for betraying the trust placed in him. Instead of protecting the school and it's forest, he plotted to sell the land for his own gain.
Mr. Nyambe had always been the true protector of the school forest. Now he smiled as the children laughed and played again. Though he looked serious on the outside, deep down in his heart, Mr Nyambe was smiling and happy.
All around the school, hands joined together. Trees went into the ground. Gardens were cleaned and restored, as the forest grew green again.
As each tree grew, so did the children's happiness. Smiles grew bigger and bigger. The school was slowly coming back to life as children played.
