Adjoa was a little girl with a very big smile and hair full of colorful butterfly clips. She loved her bright blue dress with its white collar and her shiny black shoes. Most of all, she loved making new friends.
Adjoa got so excited that she ran very, very close to people she didn't know. "Adjoa," her Aunty Comfort would say gently, guiding her back. "Everyone needs a little bit of room to feel happy and safe. We call that a personal bubble."
To show her what she meant, Aunty Comfort took out a wand and blew soap bubble. It floated in the air. "See this bubble, Adjoa? Imagine you have one all around you. It’s your own special space where you feel just right."
Adjoa closed her eyes and imagined her very own bubble. It was soft just like her butterflies. "In my bubble, I can sing and dance!" Adjoa said. "That's right! And other people have bubbles too."
Later that day, Adjoa and Aunty Comfort went to the park. Adjoa saw a lady sitting on a bench. Adjoa started to run over quickly to say hi, but then she remembered her bubble. She slowed down and stayed close to Aunty Comfort.
The lady smiled and held out a cookie. "Would you like a treat, little girl?" she asked. The cookie looked very yummy. She held the cookie out with a kind smile, waiting to see if Adjoa would come closer to take it.
Adjoa started to reach out her hand, but then she stopped. She looked at the cookie, then she remembered her bubble rules. She knew that her bubble was for keeping her safe, and she shouldn't go into a stranger's space for food.
Adjoa ran back to Aunty Comfort. "Aunty, that lady has a cookie. Can I have it?" Aunty Comfort knelt down and hugged her. "It is kind of her to offer, Adjoa. But we have a special safety rule: we only eat food given to us by our family."
Aunty Comfort reached into her bag and pulled out a small container of sweet grapes from home. "This is a safe snack because it came from our kitchen," she explained. Adjoa took a big bite. Aunty Comfort always knew what was best for her.
"If you want to be friendly, you can give a big wave from inside your bubble," Aunty Comfort suggested. Adjoa gave the lady a wave and said, "Thank you, but I have my own!" Then she gave Aunty Comfort a giant hug. "I'm a Bubble Boss!"
