Reitumetse loved doing her school work on time. Before playing, she would make sure that her assignments are done and signed for when her parents arrive. One day, she asked her mother for assistance. Her mother reached for her phone and opened an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. This made Reitumetse uncomfortable.

Her mother noticed the discomfort and inquired about it. Reitumetse told her that their teacher taught them that if they don't understand a question, they must follow a number of steps before using AI. First, the teacher advised that they look up words they may not understand in the dictionary.

2

Second, the teacher advised that they read the question multiple times to make sense of the whole question. Reitumetse read the question again to verify her understanding. Third, the teacher advised that they should read class or additional notes related to the question.

3

"Our teacher taught us that most of the general AI chatbots weren't necessarily built for education but if we are to use them, it should be ethically, under guidance, and after reading and exhausting all other options", Reitumetse further explained to her mother.

4

"When we do use them, it should be to help us understand the question or provide us with the structure, an explainer video or image generation if we understand pictorial examples better " Reitumetse continued.

5

"Our teacher said that as parents you can use AI such as NotebookLM to help generate quizzes to help us understand better as well as generate mnemonics, mind maps, audios or analogies. In all these cases, our teacher emphasized that we have to fact-check the outputs."
