Pande was blind and lived alone.
He needed a companion to help him get along.
He heard of a good young woman called Nyingô. She lived with her parents not far away.
She was brought up well. Pande thought, "Nyingô could be my companion, my wife."
Ayom had come to ask for Nyingô's hand in marriage.
He was a proud man. He only believed in his good looks.
On another day, Pande also went to ask Nyingô to be his wife.
Nyingô's mum asked her, "The other day it was Ayom, today it is Pande. Who is your choice?"
"The man that will marry me will show himself," Nyingô answered.
Many days after, both Ayom and Pande visited on the same day.
They both brought gifts for Nyingô and her parents.
The family welcomed them well.
Pande was friendly towards Ayom, but Ayom was not.
Nyingô's mother served them roasted groundnuts. She then went to prepare a good meal for her daughter's suitors.
Mother came back to collect the dishes. She noticed that all the groundnut shells were in front of Pande.
Ayom was throwing the shells in front of Pande.
Mother asked Ayom, "Are you eating the nuts with the shells? Is there no food in your place?"
Mother shouted with anger, "My daughter cannot live without food in your place."
Nyingô came out and asked Ayom to leave her house.
"Go! I cannot marry a man that eats groundnuts with the shells," Nyingô told Ayom.
