The Clever Tortoise and the Birds
Sulemana Ibrahim

Tortoise wanted to fly like the birds.
But he had no wings.

1

“Please lend me feathers,” he begged.
The birds agreed kindly.

2

Tortoise flew with the birds to a big feast.
There was plenty of food!

3

“My name is All of You,” Tortoise said.
He tricked the birds.

4

When food was served, they said,
“This is for all of you!”

Tortoise ate everything!

5

The birds became angry. They took back their feathers.

6

Tortoise fell from the sky—CRASH!
His shell cracked.

7

He learned never to trick others again.
That is why his shell has cracks today.
