Lipeh lived in the small of village of Utugwang. She loved spending time on her little farm behind her parents' house. Every morning she would wear her small rubber boots, carry a tiny basket, and run to greet her farm animals.
First, Lipeh had Ushie, a brown goat with soft ears that loved chewing on mango leaves. Ushie helped keep the farm grass short by eating the fresh weeds.
Lipeh's mom told her, “A goat and grass are good friends.”
One day, Lipeh felt Ushie looked lonely. So she added Imam, a fluffy white sheep that loved jumping around. Imam and Ushie became best friends because Imam ate the softer grasses while Ushie liked the tougher leaves. Lipeh was happy.
Soon, Lipeh noticed that insects were disturbing her vegetables. So she brought in Atisi, a small black hen that loved scratching the soil and eating insects. Atisi would cluck happily while keeping the farm clean.
Lipeh loved them all.
One afternoon, Lipeh noticed the farm needed help watering. So she added Eddie, a strong white cow that loved drinking water and producing milk for Lipeh and her parents. Eddie also helped fertilise the soil naturally.
Later, Lipeh felt her farm needed protection. So she brought in Isom, a tall black dog with sharp ears. Isom watched over all the animals and barked softly whenever strangers came near.
By the end of the year, Lipeh's little farm was full of happy animals. She learned that each animal was added because one needed the other.
Every night, Lipeh would sit outside her house, watching her animals sleep under the warm moonlight. She would smile and whisper, “A good farm is like a good family—everyone needs someone.”
