My father's bodaboda
Amani Mcharo

This is my father on his bodaboda (motorcycle taxi). He is the best rider in our village.

He wears a helmet to be safe in case he falls.

1

My father starts his bodaboda every morning to go to work.

I always go outside to wave him goodbye when he leaves.

2

On school days, he takes me to school on the bodaboda.

He always gives me a helmet to wear. Then, I sit behind him and hold onto him.

3

My sister likes to sit in front of my father when he rides the bodaboda.

She pretends that she is a rider on an adventure.

4

My father rides in the morning to all corners of the village.

He carries two children at a time to arrive early in school.

5

Farmers depend on him to bring their produce to the market on market days.

He carries them and their fruits, vegetables and milk.

6

My father helps to take the sick to the clinic.

He also transports nurses and vaccines when they are going to immunize children.

7

He helps people send or receive letters from the post office in town.

He also delivers building materials to the builders who need them.

8

In the rainy season, my father protects himself using his raincoat and a pair of waterproof trousers.

He also wears boots that keep his feet dry.

9

Most of the other bodaboda riders stop working when it rains.

But my father keeps working. He is good at riding on muddy roads.

10

Everyone in the village loves my father and his bodaboda.

The people in the village wave and shout his name whenever he passes by.

11

When he returns after a long day, I run to hug him.

I help carry the things he brings home for us.

I am very proud of my father and the work he does.
