Kofikrom is a small farming community located on the Aburi Mountains in Ghana's Eastern Region. Despite being a mountainous town, the people are great farmers.
Kofikrom has a huge tree which has only one fruit.
The tree is the source of nutrient and growth for all other food crops. Hence their ability to be great farmers.
It is forbidden for all generations to eat that fruit.
Amina lives with her parents in Kofikrom. Since she is fond of the big tree, she is always seen around it.
Sometimes, she waters the base of the tree to ensure its growth. She also cares for the little trees under the big tree.
One hot afternoon, a boy and his father from a nearby community were passing through Kofikrom.
He was so hungry that he couldn't wait to get home.
As they passed by the tree, the boy saw the bright fruit and was instantly attracted it. He imagined how delicious it would taste.
Before his father could explain to him the relevance of that fruit, the boy had already plugged the fruit and taken a bite.
This is bad, his father regretted.
The tree instantly began breaking in half.
The leaves began falling off.
Members of the community rushed to the tree with their hands over their heads.
Some reported that their farm crops were instantly affected.
Amina also rushed to the tree. She embraced the lower part of the tree in tears.
The tree began trembling in the presence of the community members.
Amina asked for water and watered the plant at the base as she always did.
To their surprise, the breaking tree became whole and stood upright. New leaves began to grow again.
Several bright little birds flew around it. Everyone was surprised and could not believe their eyes.
The tree grew beautifully again. But it took a few years to grow fruit again.
Their food crops were also positively affected.
The little boy and his father thanked Amina for her help.
They apologized to the community members.
The community leaders built a fence around the tree to prevent any similar actions in the future.
Only Amina was allowed into the fenced area. She could get closer to the tree.
