It was Monday morning. The learners at Prince SJ Mahlangu School were very happy.
Teacher Manamela said, “Children, today we are going to visit the Animal Park in the city!”

1

The children packed their food and water. They got into the bus with big smiles and they sang a song “ we are going to the animal park, lion and elephant are waiting for us there!”

2

When they got there, they met Mrs Khumalo. She was waiting to show them the animals.
She said “ learners, the animals you will see are part of our African culture.”

3

The first animal they saw was a lion sitting proudly.
Mrs Khumalo said “ the lion shows bravery”

4

Next, they saw a big elephant.
Teacher Manamela asked “ who had seen an elephant before?”
Thato said “ I only saw it in the books. Mrs Khumalo said “ the elephant shows peace and wisdom.”

5

Then they saw a monkey in a tree. Kabelo laughed and said “ hahaha, the monkey plays like we do when we are at playtime!”

6

Teacher Manamela said “nature is a gift, we must take care of it.”
Palesa said, “I love animals, they love to play be happy.”

7

When the sun was going down, the children got in to the bus.
They sang happily: “ nature is life and we respect it! City of animal park we will come again!”

8

Lesson of the day.
Nature and animals are part of our African culture. We must respect and protect them.
