Long, long ago in Thokoza village. There lived King Mbambe, who was kind, accommodating, and compassionate. His village was painted beautifully with hardworking colours.
In the Spring, the village had beautiful flowers, lush green grass, and blooming trees.
In Summer, the sun shone yellow on the blue skies. The green trees provide shade for the villagers to keep cool.
In Winter, the grass and leaves were brown. Even the bare trees still looked beautiful.
In Autumn, the villagers harvested green spinach, orange carrots and red apples.
It really was lovely at Thokoza village. Everyone admired the work that was done by the colours.
The colours took turns to shine in different seasons and for their different uses. However, Grey was the meanest of them all. He did not treat the other colours well.
One night, when the colours were preparing for their rest. Grey boasted that he was the best of them all and did not even need the other colours to paint the village colourful. He even wished that they could all disappear.
The other colours got hurt and decided to sneak out of the house and hide in the Mboza cave. Grey was left deep in his sleep.
The next day, when everyone woke up, everything was GREY! "Ahhh! What is going on?!" cried the queen. "Mooo! We can't eat grey grass!" complained the cows. "Chirp chirp! We can't fly on grey skies!" exclaimed the birds.
The villagers, animals, and birds all gathered at the King's palace to complain and seek help. The King was also puzzled by the situation. He wondered why Grey was the only colour left. Everyone turned and asked Grey to explain himself.
Grey, trembling and weeping, " I told the other colours last night that I was the best of them all and wished that they could all disappear." "This morning, I woke up all alone. I don't know where they have gone," explained Grey, crying.
The King became furious and wanted to punish Grey as well as imprison him. The owl explained to the King that the previous night, he had seen the colours entering the Mboza cave.
The King and his men set off to the cave to beg the colours to come back. He even promised them a home at his palace.
Grey was made to apologise to the other colours and promise never to be mean to them ever again.
Thokoza village was colourful again. Everyone feasted happily at the King's palace.
