Setimamolelo was a 12-year-old boy who lived in Kuruman. He was a gifted and talented young boy.
One of his special gifts was the ability to blow fire from his mouth. It was both impressive and dangerous.
One evening, as he sat outside near the fire, he saw five figures come out from the flickering flames. They were his relatives and grandparents. They had once shared his gift but had long since passed away.
The fire grew bigger and brighter, and then, just as suddenly, they disappeared.
Moments later, the forest was in flames. People were running, homes were burning, and chaos filled the air.
Chickens, dogs, and goats scattered in fear. The fire raged on, unstoppable.
Even the springboks leapt high and fled towards Gamohana Hills.
The fire destroyed everything in its path, and soon, the village of Maruping was just ashes.
Setimamolelo remembered something he heard when he lit the fire beneath the three-foot pot. He would hear, "The fire you set, you must control."
He had learned how to create fire, but not how to control it. Determined to save his village, he ran to Gamohana Hills to find a way to master his gift.
At the top of the hill, he found his brother waiting for him. His brother showed him how to put out fire using a special piece of tree bark.
Setimamolelo practiced tirelessly, day and night, determined to gain control.
When darkness fell and the stars came out to play, the villagers would see flames flickering at the top of the hill.
This would vanish moments later into pitch-black silence. Setimamolelo practiced again and again.
When Maruping village was finally rebuilt, Setimamolelo began to showcase his gift to the young children.
But more importantly, he taught them the wisdom the three-foot pot whispered to him: "The fire you set, you must control."
