Agee, the Brave Hunter
Deborah Iengem Terhemba

Agee, known as "the spirit of the forest" or "the forest itself," was a hunter from Gbajimba village. He would go into the thickest forest where other hunters dared to go. It was rumoured that his source of power came from his three dogs.

1

The three dogs each had their own unique qualities. The first dog was an incredibly fast runner, the second was very strong, and the third was fierce. Agee won the King's favor by regularly sending meat to the palace, which earned him invitations to feasts at the royal residence.

2

At the palace, Agee, whose name meant "powerful," inspired his audience with stories of how he overpowered and killed large animals. These tales were beloved by the King and his subjects.

3

On this day, he told a story of how he killed two elephants. "I called my two dogs and next, I shot the elephant on the head, two dogs bit the left and right legs, while the third bit the forearms." "The elephant fell and died," he said.

4

A farmer working on his farm heard a strange noise in the forest. He was curious to know the cause of the noise. "What could have caused that noise, let me go and find out," he thought to himself.

5

The first hunter tried to attack the beast with his sword. The bear punched him in the face, he fell in a pit and died. The second hunter also attacked the bear, it threw him up a tree. The branches pierced through him and he also died.

6

Agee arrived to see his fellow hunters all dead. He called his dogs and shot the bear on the head. The two dogs quickly attacked it, it became dazed. Agee shot it in the chest again and it died. He cut it's head and brought it to the King.

7

The king and the villagers praised Agee. He was celebrated in the entire village of Gbajimba for saving them from the beast.
