Mommy owl was sleeping along with her four babies when she heard a loud crash! What was that she thought as she woke up.

She looked over to her left and saw baby Jenny of course, she thought with a sigh.

1

Jenny, what are you doing?
I'm trying to learn how to use my wings so that I can go out and hunt for food like you do Mommy.
Jenny is 4 a.m. You should be sleeping; can it wait until tomorrow evening?
No Mommy I need to practice.

2

Mommy Owl was too tired to argue with Jenny. She was up hunting all night to feed her babies.

Alright then Jenny please just keep the noise down your brothers, and I are trying to sleep.

3

Jenny kept on practicing throughout the day until she felt like she was ready to jump out of the nest and try to fly.
Mommy said that she was not allowed to fly out of the nest yet because she is still too small.
But Jenny had other ideas she wanted to by outside and enjoy the night's air like the other big owls.

So, while Mommy was sleeping Jenny closed her eyes and dived out of the nest into the dark unknown air.
WOW, this is amazing she thought!
Jenny tried flapping her wings, but nothing happened she just kept falling and falling.
Help help! she shouted, but she was too far away from her mommy she could not hear Jenny's call for help.

5

enny fell to the ground. She got up and shook her head. Ow! Everything hurts she cried. She tried climbing up the tree to get back to the nest but no luck.
So, she started wandering around to find a place to sleep, it was getting light now and she was very tired.

Jenny found a soft patch of grass not far away from their tree and fell asleep.

6

Mommy woke up and could not find Jenny anywhere. She called and called but had no luck.
Mommy flew down to the bottom of the tree but still no Jenny.
Oh, dear, she thought. What happened to my child?
Mommy started walking around and found Jenny in the patch of grass.
Jenny! she called angrily. What are you doing here?
