Once upon a time, there was a girl named Sophie who lived in a small village with her mom. Her dad had passed away, so it was just the two of them. Sophie's mom said they were going to move to a new place for a fresh start. But Sophie loved their old home so much that she cried and didn't want to leave.

1

Sophie's mom was scared to leave her alone because there were giants living in caves nearby. But Sophie cried a lot, so her mom finally agreed to let her stay behind. She promised to bring food every day and sing a special song to let Sophie know it was her.

2

Sophie's mother assured her, promising to bring food daily and offering a special song as a signal of her arrival. "Remember," she cautioned, "only open the door for my song, 'Sophie my child! Sophie my child! Come out and eat your porridge! Come out and eat your porridge!"

3

The next morning, Sophie's mother arrived with food. She sang their special song, and Sophie opened the door to receive the delicious meal. After a loving kiss, her mother returned to her new home.

4

A giant, hidden in the bushes, watched, and listened to Sophie and her mother. That night, after Sophie turned off her lights, she heard a deep voice outside singing her mother's song.

"Sophie my child! Come out and eat your porridge!" Recognizing the ruse, Sophie shouted, "Go away! You are not my mother! You are a giant!"

5

The giant walked away, disappointed, back to the caves. Every morning and evening, Sophie's mother brought her food. And every morning and evening, the giant also came, trying to trick her. But each time, Sophie sent him away, recognizing his deep voice as he sang her mother's song.

6

One day, the giant had an idea. "I can change my voice to resemble Sophie's mother!" he thought. He made a fire and threw a smooth, round stone into the flames. When the stone was hot and glowing red, he took it out and swallowed it.

7

The giant started singing and jumped for joy when he heard his voice sounding as sweet as Sophie's mother's. The next morning, he went to Sophie's house early. Standing at the door, he sang, "Sophie my child! Sophie my child! Come out and eat your porridge! Come out and eat your porridge!"

8

Hearing what she believed was her mother's voice, Sophie eagerly opened the door. To her shock, the giant was standing there! She tried to shut the door, but the giant was too fast. He seized Sophie and tossed her into a sack.

9

The giant happily walked back to his cave, thinking it was a lovely day. He wished he had some traditional beer for dinner.

10

Later that morning, Sophie's mother came to bring her food as usual. She sang her song, but Sophie didn't come out. After singing a few more times, she realized Sophie was missing.

11

Sophie's mother quickly came up with a plan. She brought some traditional beer to the giant's cave. She told him she was going to a party and offered him beer.

12

The giant drank a lot and got really drunk. He fell asleep on the floor. Sophie's mother then freed Sophie from the sack and they ran home together.

13

Sophie's mother took her child and ran as fast as they can, from that day on, Sophie and her mother lived happily in their new village without any giant troubles.
