It was early in the morning and the sun was already up and the moon was asleep. A loud noise of excitement and rush was heard from Lizzy's home. It was Lizzy with the noise because it was her first day at school. '' Mommy! Quickly finish making my lunch box; I do not want to be late for school. And Refilwe is waiting for me outside," said Lizzy.

1

Lizzy left her home in a big hurry, and met Refilwe outside. "Hello Refilwe. How are you?" said Lizzy happily. "I am fine Lizzy, I see you are happy about our first day at school," said Refilwe with excitement. Lizzy responded, "Yes, I can't wait to go to class. Let us hurry." The two little girls walked on the pavement next to the road.

2

As they were walking, their excitement came into a halt and they stopped moving. "Oh no," said Lizzy. "It doesn't look safe to cross the road," said Refilwe.

3

The two little girls did not know how to cross the road. "The lights go red, yellow and green, and the cars stop and go," said Refilwe. '' How can we cross to the other side, and what are the strip white lines here ," they asked themselves as they were confused.

4

At the crossroad there were cars, pedestrian crossing lines and the traffic lights.

5

''You look frustrated my friends,'' said a friendly voice next to Lizzy and Refilwe. They looked and saw it was Hare, who was wearing a cape. "We don't know how to cross the road," Lizzy and Refilwe replied."

6

Hare taught Lizzy and Refilwe about road safety. "You firstly have to look left and right to see if it is safe to cross", said Hare. Hare used magic to make cards with pictures about traffic lights. First, he held up a picture of pedestrian lights. He said," when this light is red, you do not cross. You stop".

7

He then held up the picture where the green light is on. "When this light is green, you can cross the road", said Hare. ''These strip white lines are the pedestrian crossing sign. That is where you walk when crossing the road''.

8

"Now let me get you kids to school. We will hop back when the pedestrian light is green", said Hare. Hop! Hop! Hop! They crossed the street to the other side. "Thank you" said Refilwe and Lizzy.

9

After school, Lizzy and Refilwe safely crossed the crossroad. For now, they have learned how to safely cross the road and get to school.
