Long time ago all the animals lived together in the forest. The elephant was the king of the jungle. He would call for meetings and all the animals would attend.They had a lot of respect for him.

Work was divided amongst them.There were those that looked for food while others guarded the kingdom. From time to time, they engaged in various activities like, running competitions to identify which animal was the fastest.

One day they decided to have an eating competition. The competition was about who could eat the hottest plate of food. All the food was to be cooked and the winner would eat it while still boiling hot.

One after the other the animals tried but the boiled meat was too hot to eat. All along Lion desired so much to be the king over all the animals. He wanted to be feared.

When it was his turn to eat the meat, he took one big chunk and swallowed it all up.

His throat burnt so much and he let out a very loud cry due to the heat.On hearing this the other animals trembled with fear and some even ran away.

The Lion then realized that roaring made others so scared of him. From that day he started roaring and took over the kingdom as king. All the animals were so afraid and they all scattered for safety.

Everyday he roars to remind the animals that he is king of the jungle.
