Zanda is a girl from a rural place called Kezi in Zimbabwe. Most houses in this area are made from natural things like mud and clay. At her home, they keep cows, goats and chickens.
It is very common for homes in her village to keep domestic animals. These animals provide milk for drinking, meat for food, skin for clothing and accessories and like bags.
Ancient tradition and mysteries from her village believes that animals once had the ability to talk to each other. This stopped after man domesticated some animals. This caused confusion between animal language sand human languages.
Zanda also has a pet dog named Zulu. Zulu likes running and chasing away naughty children.
She enjoys playing with Zulu and taking nature walks to see wild plants and wild animals.
Zanda is very interested in knowing more about animals.
One day Zanda decided to go to the zoo to learn more about wild animals.
The first animal she met was a zebra. A Zebra has black and white perfect stripes. Zanda remembered one folktale that her grandfather once told her about the zebra and its stripes.
Grandfather told her that the zebra was given its black and white stripes to protect it from pests and parasites. The black color confuses pests into thinking there is nothing to bite.
While she moved around, she saw a gigantic elephant clumsily grazing pumpkin leaves.
The tour guide told her that elephants were known to be the jungle ancestors. This was because they have a good memory.
Zanda decided to visit the lion's den because it was feeding time. She observed as the lions ate. The male lion had its back full of mane and seemed to be the biggest in the head. The lioness sat watchfully as the male lion gobbled what would like a goat carcass.
After a while, the male lion left the meat and that is when the lioness jumped in to eat. Zanda also saw the little cub running under its mother's hind legs to also get its lion's share.
It was time to go home, and on her way out of the zoo, she saw some giraffe drinking water.
Zanda was ecstatic to see such an enormously large and tall creature soaring into the heavens.
Zanda made a wish to one day ride a giraffe so that she could touch the clouds. She thought she could see the future on the back of a giraffe.
As she went home that day, Zanda learnt a valuable lesson about the animals she met.
She saw how different animals lived in harmony and she wanted to protect wildlife because she loved nature.
The end.
