Why dogs bark at buses
Hafsat Mohammed

A bus driver in Kano once picked up three passengers for Sabon Gari Market.

They were Dog, Goat, and Sheep.

1

Dog, Goat, and Sheep went to the market to buy ingredients.

They were each making soup for their families.

2

Goat bought vegetables.

Sheep bought maize.

Dog bought meat.

3

"Hurry up, or I will leave you behind!" called the driver of the bus.

4

On the way back from the market, Sheep was the first to get off the bus.

She went on her way without paying her fare.

5

At the second bus stop, Goat also got off the bus without paying.

She ran away.

6

At the last bus stop, Dog paid and waited for her change.

The driver refused to give any change.

"You paid for your friends," he said.

7

Because Goat and Sheep did not pay, buses in Kano will no longer carry them.

And dogs always bark and run after buses to collect their change.
