One sunny day, on top of the hill lived red Rooster and clever Mongoose.

Mongoose was pretty but very cunning.

One morning, Mongoose felt vey hungry. She took a walk in search of food.

As she looked for food, she saw Rooster sitting on a big tree trunk.

"Good morning my friend, Mongoose. Why are you still here?" Rooster asked.

"There was a meeting today for all animals. It was important for all of us to be there" replied Mongoose.

"What was the meeting all about?" Rooster asked.

Mongoose replied, "Get down from the tree my friend, then I will tell you the good news from the meeting."

Rooster was so excited about the news. He climbed down the tree very quickly.

When he got on the last branch of the tree, he stopped. Something was not right.

He looked at Mongoose's eyes as he stood under the tree.

Rooster went back, up the tree. He asked, "Did you see dogs running up the river? Did they not go for the meeting?"

Mongoose was very scared. "Where?" she asked.

"They ran up the river and will come back this way very soon," Rooster said.

Mongoose looked every direction to see the dogs, but there was nothing.

She stood on her hind legs and said, "Oh no! I don't think the dogs heard the news. They were not listening during the meeting."

She looked left and right. She ran very fast and disappeared in the bush.

That is how Rooster saved his life.
